Bread Baking Goddess

Why bread? Well, in my house, we go through a lot of it. Most of the stuff in the grocery stores isn't very good. And good bread is super expensive (after all, most bread is flour, yeast, salt and water). Plus I love to bake. But I can't bake sweets all of the time since that wouldn't be a very healthy decision. So making homemade bread lets me bake, and feeds my family in healthful ways while saving money!

I am trying to challenge myself this year to bake a different loaf of bread every week. So 52 different recipes by the end of the year. I'm a little behind, of course...that is how my life runs at this point. But this resolution didn't come to me until mid January. I'll share some of my other baking adventures along the way as well. I'm making this my spot to share the delicious things that I bake up in my kitchen. I'm not a professional (but wish I was).

I will post some of the recipes when I feel that I am not infringing on any copy righted material. I will always post where I found the recipe just in case someone wants to make bread (or any other delicious goodie) too.

High Fiber Flax Bread

This bread was supposed to be a 10 Grain Bread using a recipe from Healthy Bread in 5 Minutes a Day. So the recipe called for a 10 Grain hot cereal and my mommy brain accidentally bought a high fiber hot cereal instead. So I used it anyway and the result was quite tasty!

All of my ingredients together before adding the water. You can see the all purpose flour, white whole wheat flour, high fiber cereal, yeast, salt and vital gluten all in beautiful little piles.

Just add water and mix!

Yeasted Banana Bread

So this is my first new recipe for the blog. I found myself with some rotten bananas taking up space in my freezer, so I decided that I would make banana bread today. And then I figured I should just do a bit of a baking day and bake bread today too...hmmm, which new bread to choose? Low and behold, I stumbled upon a banana bread recipe in Healthy Bread in 5 Minutes A Day! This was going way beyond my comfort level, seeing as it was on the sweet side (although used no sugar, just a bit of honey and the natural sweet of the bananas) and I have never done a yeasted sweat bread. But I decided that this would be the perfect first new recipe since the whole reason I gave myself this challenge was to find new recipes and try new breads! So here goes nothing!

This bread had mashed bananas, honey and walnuts in it. So it was super healthy. I put peanut butter on it with a side of Greek yogurt for a tasty, protein packed breakfast.  And then as a bit of a desert, I put Nutella on it (this idea came from my hubby). It was delicious, of course, because what isn't when Nutella is added!

Perfect Crumb

I'm starting with a recipe that I've actually made a hundred times (cheating, I know, but it is my favorite). Regular old white bread. Delicious. Easy to rise. Perfect Grilled Cheese. Perfect Hole In The Toast. Perfect Sandwich. Perfect. I'll make other white breads I'm sure. But this recipe is easy and quick. And it is my Gold Standard. It is adapted from Artisan Bread in 5 Minutes A Day, my favorite bread book because it fits with my life so well.
